Navy service member, Richard Jones served his nation during three tours of duty in Vietnam. As a Veteran, he continues to serve his community and fellow Veterans with his outreach work with homeless Veterans in the North Bay. Richard was nominated by the Sonoma County Veterans Service office for his work with homeless Veterans, and was recognized by the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on January 15, 2008. Over the past seven years, Richard has advised homeless Veterans on U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits and other state and local resources available. His caring and diligent efforts have encouraged and assisted numerous homeless Veterans to complete the necessary documents to file for benefits, follow through with their claims and obtain VA benefits. His role as a homeless Veteran advocate has helped hundreds of Veterans make positive changes in their lives. Richard’s selfless dedication to this special group of Veterans has not only helped the individual Veterans involved, but has also played an important role in making our community a better place. Thank you Richard! Chris Bingham, Lt Col, USAF (Retired) Sonoma County Veteran Service Officer
